Luis Enrique has put Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey and Everton’s John Stones on his summer shortlist following the lifting of Barcelona’s transfer ban this month, The Express reports.
With the means to properly execute his demands in the transfer market now, the man affectionately called “Lucho” is aiming to freshen up a squad that clearly has some ageing men in it, and perhaps sampling players from England’s top tier will answer that need.
John Stones definitely fits the role of a centre-half for the Catalan club – the young Englishman is comfortable and expressive when on the ball and can be trusted upon to help build the first phase of the attack. The 21-year-old could easily succeed the ageing Javier Mascherano and Jeremy Mathieu with success. Establishing himself as one of the great starlets in English football at the moment, the Blaugrana would do well to capture such a coveted player.
Aaron Ramsey certainly has the drive and endeavour to compliment the likes of Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets, completing what would be a diverse midfield. The Welshman would replace the box-to-box role Ivan Rakitic has previously employed for Barça in the past year and a half, and in such a talented team, the 25-year old would have the platform to replicate his feats in the 2013-14 season.
It is believed that a £50 million bid for each would be enough to tempt both clubs to let go of their men, which is fair given the potential in the pair and the nature of the market at the moment.
Barcelona certainly need to freshen things up at Camp Nou and tapping talent from the Premier League appears to be a very wise way to go about it.
