Whilst Luis Enrique’s Barcelona are in cruise control at the top of La Liga, there is plenty left to play for elsewhere in the table – whether that be Champions League places, Europa League places or the scrap to stay away from relegation into the second division.
With the two sides from the capital city tussling over second and third place, Villarreal are starting to become more comfortable in fourth spot – but will their low-scoring side with a strong emphasis on defence hold up?
Meanwhile, things are certainly heating up at the bottom. The team with the worst form in the league, Deportivo La Coruna, should have been safe by now, but a run consisting of one win (vs Eibar in December) in their last fourteen league games means they are now truly in the relegation fight.
With eight place Eibar being just ten points from safety, most of the league will be wary that a similarly poor run at this stage of the season could see them go down – including somewhat household names such as Valencia and Real Sociedad.
